Pilates is for everyone. It is about movement, re-educating and re-aligning your body to allow it to move with greater ease and re-energising it.
Pilates is a method of exercise designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body and mind. Pilates sessions are designed to build the foundations for progression to more challenging exercises, resulting in an hour of focused movement connecting breath and body. STOTT Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original mind-body exercise pioneered by German athlete, Joseph Pilates.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates is beneficial for any lifestyle because it teaches body awareness, it allows people who work at a desk to restore and balance their posture, it improves flexibility and agility alleviating back and joint pain and it compliments many sports disciplines by helping athletes perform better, aid recovery and decrease the risk of injury. Numerous sports players incorporate Pilates into their training: professional golfers, rugby, tennis and football players practice Pilates. New Zealand All Blacks have done Pilates for over 40 years!

I’ve always been ‘a mover’. Running, cycling, hiking and body combat were daily fitness activities. I was a primary school teacher and sitting on little chairs meant for 5 year olds or on the carpet for story times didn’t do a lot for my back, neck and hips. I began to get incredible pain in my lower back.
I tried seeing physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, anybody who could help. They relieved the pain short term but it always came back due to repeated poor movement patterns. Every night I was going to bed with heat pads and waking up in agony. I had lost hope.
It was then suggested to try Pilates. I didn’t know much about it but was willing to try anything. I had my first class 5 years ago and have never looked back.
Pilates has taught me about body awareness, good posture, flexibility, agility and efficiency of motion and thanks to repeated practice of Pilates, I no longer have back pain.
Swan dive - an exercise that I have grown to love as it requires a strong back and hip extensors to maintain the shape throughout. l like that it challenges spine mobility and endurance of the spine and hips while in extension. I feel strong in this posture and I like that it is a fun, playful exercise

Private or duet sessions
Personal 1 to 1 sessions are a great tailor made workout focusing on specific needs – target muscle imbalances and health conditions. Private sessions are also great if you are new to Pilates or if you prefer to work 1 to 1 and under close direction to achieve your goals and get the most from a personal workout.
Workout as a team with a friend or partner to achieve together as a workout is tailor made to your needs and goals.
